Uses Of Goniometer

• Goniometer is a device which used in physical therapy to measure the range of motion of joint and angle of the joint.

• Goniometer if of three types:

1. Universal Goniometer-measures the multiple planes.

2. Inclinometer Goniometer-measures the angle of inclination and declination oj joint.

3. Specific Goniometer: measure the specific joint.

• Uses :

1. Initial Assessment-measure range of motion, limitations and establish the baseline for treatment.

2. Muscle length testing -identify muscles imbalances, assess muscles length, flexibility.

3. Exercise prescription -Ensure accurate angle and ranges for therapeutic exercise.

4. Post surgical rehabilitation -monitors the range of motion, strength and functions during post-operative recovery.

5. Improve patient outcomes.
