Treatment for Colles Fracture at New Friends Colony-PhysioNautics
Colles Fracture is a fracture of the radius bone of the forearm. The fracture takes place at the distal end of the radius which is close to the wrist. In this the the complete fracture of the radius bone takes place resulting in an upward displacement of the distal head of the radius bone. It is sometimes also commonly known as "Broken Wrist", although the carpal bones of the wrist itself are not involved.
The fracture generally occurs when the individual falls on the outstretched hand and is usually associated with dorsal and radial displacement of the broken bone. This fracture often leads to the disturbance at the level of radial-ulnar articulation, fracture of the ulnar styloid process. Along with these this type of fracture is also associated with several other complications as well. Some of the common symptoms of this type of fracture may include "Dinner Fork" Deformity, Dorsal Wrist Pain, Swelling of the wrist, Increased angulation of distal radius, Inability to grasp objects and many more.
Physiotherapy Treatment!
After the fracture the depending upon it\'s severity it can be either treated conservatively or can be operated on. Conservatively the cast is applied with distal fragment in palmar flexion and ulnar deviation and surgically there are multiple number of ways it can be operated on. Well whichever way it is treated physiotherapy always remains a part of the rehabilitation program that can never be neglected.
Physiotherapy helps to correct the deformity, helps with the post fracture stiffness, regaining of the range of motion, reducing pain and many more. In brief Physiotherapists helps the individual to get back to their activity of daily living and gain the functionality of the wrist and forearm.
