Jersey Finger Treatment In Maharani Bagh-Physionautics

Jersey finger, also known as rugby finger, refers to an avulsion injury of the flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) tendon at its insertion point on the distal phalanx of a finger. This injury commonly occurs in contact sports, particularly football and rugby, when a player’s finger gets caught in an opponent’s jersey while attempting to grasp it. As the opposing player pulls away, the finger is forcibly straightened, leading to a rupture of the tendon.

Mechanism of Injury-
The mechanism behind jersey finger typically involves a sudden extension force applied to a flexed finger.  The ring finger is most frequently affected due to its positioning during gripping actions.

Clinical Presentation-

1. Inability to flex at the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint
2. Pain and swelling
3. Tenderness
4. Pop or ripping sensation
