



Bell’s palsy is a condition that causes sudden, temporary weakness or paralysis of the muscles on one side of the face. It’s due to inflammation or compression of the facial nerve (cranial nerve VII), which controls facial movements.CAUSES:The exact cause is often unknown, but it’s believed to be linked to viral infections, such as:Herpes simplex virus (cold sores) Varicella-zoster virus (chickenpox/shingles)Epstein-Barr virus, Influenza or other upper respiratory infections.SYMPTOMS:Usually develop suddenly, often overnight, and peak within 48 hours:Drooping or paralysis on one side of the face , Inability to close the eye or smile on the affected side, Drooling, Loss of taste (anterior 2/3 of tongue), Increased sensitivity to sound (hyperacusis), Pain around the ear or jaw Reduced tear or saliva production, CAUSES :The cause of Bell palsy is not known. It's thought that it may be due to inflammation that is directed by the body's immune system against the nerve controlling movement of the face, Infection, especially following a viral infection with Herpes simplex virus.
