De Quervain's tenosynovitis is a common wrist problem that feels like a sharp ache or burn right at the base of your thumb, on the outer side of your wrist and it get swelled up...This swelling creates pressure, making everyday hand movements painful. It is often caused by repetitive actions, such as constantly scrolling on your phone, lifting a baby, twisting jars, typing, or playing sports like golf. New mothers, office workers, and people who use their hands a lot in the same way are most likely to get it. The symptoms of this includes pain and tenderness at the base of the thumb and along the side of the wrist which leads to the swelling or a small bump on the same area. This pain gets worse when you pinch, grip, or twist your wrist. Sometimes, the thumb may feel stiff or “catchy” when you move it. Effective Physiotherapy Management.... The goal of physiotherapy is to reduce inflammation and restore the movement of the thumb. Physiotherapy management is based on 4 categories, which are mentioned below : 1) Rest and Splinting: Initially, we use a “thumb spica“ splint to keep the thumb still. This gives the “tunnel“ a chance to calm down without constant irritation. 2) Ice Therapy: Applying ice for 10–15 minutes several times a day helps naturally bring down the swelling. 3) Tendon Gliding Exercises: These are specific, gentle movements designed to help the thumb movement without overstretching it. 4) Strengthening: Once the sharp pain subsides, we slowly rebuild the strength in your forearm and grip so your wrist can handle daily stress again. 5) Dry Needling or Ultrasound: At Physionautics, we often use these specialized techniques to speed up the healing of the soft tissues, offering a level of precision you won't find elsewhere. If your thumb pain is making daily life a struggle, don't wait for it to become chronic. Professional intervention is the quickest way back to a pain free life...
