Cerebral palsy (CP) is a condition that affects a persons movement balance posture and muscle control. It happens because of damage to the developing brain before birth during birth or shortly after birth. Cerebral palsy is not a disease and it does not get worse over time but the symptoms can change as a child grows. Some children may have stiff muscles (spasticity) while others may have weak muscles poor balance or uncontrolled movements. They may find it difficult to sit stand walk hold objects or perform daily activities. Some children may also have problems with speech swallowing or learning. Every child with cerebral palsy is different so treatment should always be planned according to the child's needs and abilities.
