PHYSIOTHERAPY TREATMENT FOR PARKINSON'S DISEASE @ NEW FRIENDS COLONY.

Parkinson’s disease is a long-term neurological condition that mainly affects movement. It happens due to changes in the brain and usually develops slowly over time. Parkinson’s disease occurs when certain nerve cells in the brain (in an area called the substantia nigra) get damaged or die. These cells normally produce dopamine, a chemical that helps control smooth and coordinated movements. When dopamine levels reduce, movement becomes slow and difficult. The exact cause is not always known. Some factors that may increase risk include:Ageing (usually after 60 years), Genetic factors (family history in some cases), Environmental factors like exposure to toxins, Brain changes related to abnormal protein buildup, Symptoms usually start gradually and worsen over time. Common symptoms include:Movement-related symptoms Tremors (shaking of hands, fingers, or legs, mostly at rest), Slowness of movement (bradykinesia), Muscle stiffness (rigidity), Poor balance and posture, Shuffling walk with small steps, Reduced arm swing while walking, Non-movement symptoms, Fatigue and low energy, Difficulty in speech (soft or unclear voice), Swallowing problems, Constipation, Sleep disturbances, Depression or anxiety. Physiotherapy plays a very important role in improving quality of life and maintaining independence in people with Parkinson’s disease. Key physiotherapy goals are to: Improve movement and mobility Maintain balance and posture Reduce stiffness and improve flexibility Prevent falls Improve confidence in daily activities Physiotherapy treatments include: Stretching exercises to reduce muscle stiffness, Strengthening exercises to maintain muscle power, Balance training to reduce risk of falls, Gait training to improve walking pattern and step length, Posture correction exercises to prevent stooping, Breathing exercises to improve chest expansion and voice support, Functional training for daily activities like getting up, turning, and walking Techniques like cueing (visual or auditory cues) help improve movement initiation. Regular exercises, home programs, and patient education are essential for long-term benefits. Although Parkinson’s disease cannot be cured, early and regular physiotherapy helps slow functional decline, improve mobility, and enhance overall quality of life. With proper exercise and guidance at Physionautics patients can remain active and independent for a longer time.
