Psoriatic Arthritis
Psoriatic arthritis is a type of inflammatory arthritis that can develop in some people who have psoriasis, a skin disease that causes red, scaly patches. It can affect the joints, causing pain, swelling, and stiffness. Usually, psoriasis appears first, but sometimes joint problems come before the skin changes.
Causes
Commonly occurs between 30–50 years of age, but can also affect children.
Men and women are affected equally.
It happens when the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy joints and skin.
Both genetic (family history) and environmental factors increase the risK.
Symptoms
Joint pain, swelling, and stiffness
Red, warm, and tender joints
Swollen fingers or toes
Pain in the heel or sole of the foot
Red, scaly skin patches
Nail changes such as pitting, thickening, or separation from the nail bed
Tiredness (fatigue)
