What is Iliotibial Band Syndrome ?

After the acute pain/swelling subsided, the following interventions can be applied after a thorough clinical reasoning.

3. Ultrasound therapy.
4. Iontophoresis or phonophoresis with anti inflammatory medications. Iontophoresis with dexamethasone may be useful as an anti-inflammatory modality. Phonophoresis using 10% hydrocortisone applied to the subcutaneous tissue on the IT band is helpful.
5. Radial shock wave therapy (RSWT) is the treatment of choice in some nonremitting cases. RSWT is believed to stimulate healing of soft tissue and inhibit nociceptors. It increases the diffusion of cytokines across vessel walls into the painful area and stimulates the tendon healing response.
