Lower cross syndrome or LCS is a postural mal alignment that
is caused when one group of muscles get tight or overactive and another group
of muscles get weak and underactive. In lower cross syndrome, the hip flexor
becomes overactive. Hip flexors and lower back muscles become overactive and
abdominals i.e. transverse abdominis become underactive. This imbalance leads
to a pelvic tilt, mostly anterior with exaggerated lordosis and frequent lower
back and hip pains.
Usually, the shorter muscles or the tight muscles is Iliopsoas
(hip flexor) and lower back muscles that pulls the pelvic forward and downward
And the weak muscles
(abdominals) and glutes fail to stabilize the pelvis resulting in anterior
pelvic tilt.
The most common causes are sedentary lifestyle, prolonged
sitting, incorrect exercises, poor economics etc.
Symptoms include anterior pelvic tilt, difficulty in working
core muscles and glutes during workouts, tightness in hamstring muscles and
chronic back pain with stiffness
Treatment for lower cross drawn involves strengthening of
weak muscles and stretching of the tight muscles as well as posture correction
and proper workout routine.
At PhysioNautics, we identify the root causes and work on correction
of those. We form a personalized treatment plan according to every patient and
